Imphal, June 26 2021:
Federation of Government College Teachers' Associations (FEGOCTA), Manipur has categorically stated that the failure of the government to implement UGC Regulations in Manipur is a key factor for decline in collegiate education, resulting in exodus of students to other states.
FEGOCTA, in a press release, stated that it "is really concerned with the qualitative transformation in the collegiate education in Manipur.
As an academic and intellectual group, FEGOCTA is convinced that one way to bring socio-economic development and stable society in Manipur is through quality education, health and adequate resources.
Manipur is one of the first states to implement RUSA which has construction and recruitment components" .
The Association then questioned the delay in adopting UGC Regulations, which empower the teachers and give priority to academic aspect of higher education, despite the state cabinet's approval and demand made by FEGOCTA since 2019 .
"Never in the history of Manipur have both UGC pay and regulations been adopted.
FEGOCTA is the only body which demands both," it said.
"The failure to implement UGC Regulations in Manipur for decades is a key factor for decline in collegiate education.
The results have been exodus of students outside Manipur and inability for NAAC assessment or low scores.
It is collective failure of our society, culture, politics and governments," the college teachers' body said.
FEGOCTA then reiterated its demands for immediate issuance of orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations 2018, warning that the association will go ahead with its decision to boycott online classes and examinations if its demands are not fulfilled by June 30 .
"There is no working hours for the college teachers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
They are working from home from morning to evening or even at night for online classes and examinations," it added.
