Circulation of inflammatory speeches : 7 remanded to police custody

Seven individuals who were arrested for their alleged involvement in circulating video clips with inflammatory speeches which went viral on social media like Whatsapp and Facebook and have potential to create communal disharmony and tension in the State have been remanded to police custody for three days while one individual has been released on bail on health ground.
The seven individuals who were arrested by police from different parts of the State in the last 24 hours after taking up a sou moto case by Imphal PS are identified as Suresh Maisnam, Naresh Gurung, Laishram Achouba, Rohit Das, Rinku Das, Kishan Malik, Thongbram Meghachandra and Elangbam Ranjit Meitei.
Ranjit Meitei was arrested after a sou moto case was registered under different sections of IPC and IT Act by Imphal PS yesterday for circulating a video in Facebook, allegedly threatening the non-Manipuri shop keepers at North AOC area and promoting enmity between people on the lines of religion caste, race and language.
All of them were produced before the duty Magistrate with a prayer for police custody till May 30 by the IO of the case.
The duty Magistrate heard the prayer and remanded all the arrested individuals to three days in police custody (till May 28).However, one of the individuals was released on bail by the Magistrate on health ground.
It may be mention that IGP Range 1 stated during a press briefing yesterday that the video clip is suspected to have originated from outside the State and Manipur Police DGP have sent a message to the concerned State for taking up necessary actions and to arrest the involved individuals.
But there has been official report from the side of concerned State about the arrest of the main culprit (s) behind the inflammatory video clip till the filing of this report.
