Centre opts for NIA probe

Imphal, November 25 2016:
Based on a report furnished by the State Government, the Government of India has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate the killing for PREPAK ex-Chairman Ningombam Naba- chandra alias Nongdren-khomba and his driver Leishangthem Sanjit.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order to this effect today.
Taking due cognizance of the gravity of the killing and its ramifications, the Central Government decided that the offence requires to be investigated by the NIA in accordance with the NIA Act 2008 .
58 year old PREPAK ex-Chairman Nongdrenkhomba of Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai and his driver Leishangthem Sanjit (41) of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai were shot dead inside 7th MR complex, Khabeisoi in the intervening night of June 21 and 22 this year.
Notably, Nondrenkhomba surrendered to the State Government during a formal function held at 1st MR complex on December 15, 2014 where Chief Minister O Ibobi was also present.
