Bomb blast near house of Agri officer

Imphal, July 25 2013: Suspected militants exploded a bomb at the residence of an Agriculture Department official at Soibam Leikai here early Thursday morning, but no one was injured in the incident.

However, a car and a two-wheeler parked in the courtyard of Ph Rajendro, 58, were partially damaged in the explosion.

Rajendro is the Deputy Director of Soil and Chemist at the Agriculture Department.

Earlier, unidentified people had placed three hand grenades in his residence in three different incidents.

Thursday's explosion took place around 7:30 am.

A team of police from Porompat Police Station was rushed to the spot.

The incident is being probed by the police.

The local residents, meanwhile, staged a protest dharna against the incident.

They appealed to all concerned to avoid recurrence of such incident in future and sought clarification from the assailants on Thursday's blast occurred at Rajendro's residence.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
