Interactive session organised for inmates of Manipur Central Jail

An interactive session for all the inmates both Under Trial Prisoners (UTP) and convicts currently housed in Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa was held today.
The interactive session was jointly organised by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Imphal West and DLSA, Tamenglong for the inmates falling under the jurisdiction of the DLSA of Imphal West and Tamenglong.
As per a press release by DLSA, Imphal West, the programme was attended by A Guneshwar Sharma, MJS, District and Sessions Judge, Imphal West, Heeralata Moirangthem, MJS, Secretary, DLSA, Imphal West, Laishram Rina, MJS, Secretary, DLSA, Tamenglong, panel lawyers, remand lawyers, para legal volunteers of DLSA of Imphal West and Tamenglong.
While speaking at the occasion, Aribam Guneshwar Sharma explained about the free legal aid services provided under Section 12 of Legal Services Authorities Act.
The UTPs were sensitized on law relating to bail including Default bail and the convicts were made aware regarding right to file appeal and availing free legal aid services.
The main objectives of the interaction is to provide legal aid to the under trial prisoners who are unable to file bail applications and convicts wanting to file an appeal.
Around 123 under trial prisoners and 34 convicts who have been sent to the prison by various Courts of Imphal West and Tamenglong District participated in today's interactive session, added the press release by DLSA, Imphal West.
