Imphal, March 25 2021:
The Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) has hailed Chief Minister N Biren and all officials concerned of the Ministry of Highways and Road Transport on learning that construction works of both Makru Bridge and Barak Bridge have reached completion stage and Makru Bridge may be ready for inauguration by April/May.
Speaking to media persons at their MG Avenue office today, TDC president H Ranjit said that TDC has been urging the successive Governments since 2010 to develop Imphal-Jiribam as a standard highway and replace all dilapidated bailey bridges with RCC bridges.
Exulting that Makru Bridge would soon be replaced by an RCC bridge, Ranjit appealed to all concerned to complete Barak Bridge too by May/June in the interest of transporters and the public.
He also conveyed gratitude to Chief Minister N Biren for allowing passage of vehicles weighing 40 tonnes over the newly constructed Irang Bridge which snapped last year.
Ranjit urged the Chief Minister to keep his word of replacing the existing Irang Bridge with an RCC bridge within the current year.
Once Irang Bridge is replaced with an RCC bridge along with Makru Bridge and Barak Bridge, Imphal-Jiribam highway would definitely become a standard, reliable highway, Ranjit said.
