Lamka, November 24 2010:
The Zomi Students' Federation has proposed a considerable realignment of the Guite Road which it said was felt after it was in public use for decades with an offer to cut short the stretch by some twenty kilometres and shifting of some villages to a more viable location.
ZSF's proposal to the Chief Engineer of the BRO, said realignment was required particularly in two locations, in between Songtal and Sinzawl villages.
The proposal will cut-short at least 3 kms before reaching Songtal, and near Khuangin it will minimize the road by another 10 kms, while in Sinzawl area it will further reduce the stretch by 8 kms, said the ZSF.
The proposal, according to the ZSF memo, will ensure a triple benefit as it would save the Government of any compensation burden for two the villages namely Mualnuam and Songtal have volunteered to shift their homes along the paths of the new alignment to forego their age old setback of water scarcity as well as the two villages would have better access to water source and saves travel time.
