Imphal, March 24 2018:
Zeliangrong Students' Union Khoupum Area (ZSUKA) has drawn the attention of the State Government including the competent authority of PWD and Power Department to look into the lack of access to electricity due to the removal of electric poles for the construction of Bishnupur-Rengpang road and Old Cachar road (Tongjeimarin) .
ZSUKA in a statement claimed that there is no electric supply at Gangluan Part I and II (Luwanglong Khullen village) due to the dismantling of electrical system since 2015 by the road construction company Keystone Infra Pvt Ltd.
It further claimed that there is no sign of taking up the erection work even after three years.
The roadside electric poles have been damaged by the improvement of the road constructions and the Power Department has not yet started the erection of new electrical line till date to supply electricity to the affected villages along the Old Cachar road, it stated.
The students' union stated that the supply of electric in Khoupum is only from Rengpang power sub-station and due to many reasons, there is frequent power cut off specially in rainy season as it passes through the forest.
The power cut off also directly affects thousands of students and other establishments located in Khoupum, it added.
According to KSUKA, it is learnt that the construction company is about to remove the existing roadside electric poles between Khoupum and Rengpang very soon but the authority concerned has not taken up adequate measures to redress the grievances of the affected villages along the Old Cachar road, National Highway 37A .
