Imphal, December 23 2012:
An ambulance transporting accident victim to Imphal from Ukhrul came under heavy attack from bandh supporters near the Khurai area in spite of repeated appeal for passage to treat the critically injured at hospital in the state capital.
According to reliable reports, the ambulance vehicle in which one Ngamreishang (25), who suffered a serious leg fracture in an accident in Ukhrul on Saturday afternoon, was attacked by bandh supporters near Khurai area and forced to beat a retreat with the patient.
The windshields of the vehicle, belonging to Ukhrul District Hospital, was totally damaged after the mob rained stones even after repeated appeals that it was transporting an accident victim and despite knowing that it was an ambulance.
The incident reportedly took place at about 6.15 pm.
In a telephonic talk with this reporter, the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has strongly condemned the incident and termed the action "unacceptable and far too extreme from human sensibility" .
TKS president Yangmi Khapai questioned the "rationality of the bandh" imposed by the Film Forum Manipur (FFM) that defies the universal rights.
"In strongest term, we condemned the Chandel incident in which film actress Momoko was molested by NSCN (IM) Lt.Col.Livingstone Anal.
Let that be the last incident ever to occur," he said.
However, Yangmi argued that the incident at Chandel cannot overshadowed the entire State after the government has given assurance that the culprit would be arrested and book according to law.
"What is more to ask then? It appears the incident is being used by some section to gain advantage against one community," TKS president stated.
TKS also vent ire on the hit and run case committed by VIP vehicle at North AOC Imphal on December 18 last.
One Nganaongai Vashum, a school headmaster of Government Frontier School of Tusom, was run over by VIP vehicle (White Scorpio) and escaped through the Kangla Fort while remaining elusive till date.
An FIR has been registered at Imphal West police station and a spot enquiry had also been conducted on the same day.
It demanded that the responsible VIP should come forward and owned up the accident at the earliest.
The state government should find out the VIP vehicle and punish the responsible offender.
"Is the state government turning a blind eye simply because Nganaongai Vashum was a tribal? Are we not children of Manipur? Why treat us like a second-class citizen?" Yangmi asserted.
TKS has set a five-day deadline from Saturday midnight to the state government to solve the hit and run case while sending out strong warning that it will launch an agitation of a higher magnitude than the ongoing FFM indefinite blockade.
