Imphal, November 23 2019:
National Student's Union of India (NSUI) has appealed the people of Manipur to shun this year Sangai Festival, which is scheduled to begin from tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons at its office at Congress Bhawan, BT Road, president of NSUI, Manipur State, P Bankimchandra Meitei said that decision of the State Government to conduct the festival at a time when the State is surrounded by issues that threaten the economic, political and administrative integrity of Manipur is inappropriate.
Questioning on what ground the State Government is claiming the interest of Manipur will not be affected by the Naga peace effort, he asserted that undisclosing of the points of agreement reached between the Government of India and Naga negotiators is contradictory to the Government's assurance.
NSUI endorsed the boycott imposed by seven student bodies on this year Sangai Festival, he said adding that NSUI will not support the festival in any manner.
He also asserted that NSUI will submit a memorandum regarding its stand on the many issues besieging the North East, particularly Manipur, to the Union Home Minister after consulting with its senior leaders.
Clubs and Meira Paibi lups operating at Nongmeibung areas including Eastern Student's Club (ESC) and Nongmeibung Development Meira Paibi Association also extended support to the boycott imposed by COCOMI on Sangai Festival 2019 .
