Imphal, October 23 2023:
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been constituted in connection with the unsolicited mob violence which led to the tragic demise of Sanggomsumpham Shahir @ Sana from Kshetri Bengoon Awang Leikai.
Notably, two Meitei Pangal drivers namely Shahir and Abir Khan of Sora along with two women belonging to the Meitei Community were lynched by a mob on October 19, 2023, at Takhel in Imphal East district on the accusation of carrying goods for the Kukis.
Due to the serious injuries sustained during the mob lynching, Shahir passed away on October 22 at Raj Medicity Hospital in Imphal.
Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club, JAC Against The Brutal Killing of Sanggomsumpham Shahir @ Sana convenor Mayamayum Rafi Khan demanded the State Government to clarify on the failure of the police register a Suo-Motu case in regard to the tragic incident.
He also urged the Government to apprehend all the culprits involved in the mob lynching within 48 hours and added that they will not claim the body until justice is delivered to Shahir.
Rafi Khan further cautioned that the JAC in association with like-minded CSOs, clubs, organisations and Meira Paibis will launch a strong agitation if the Government does not take immediate action & fulfils their demands.
