IRCS fighting COVID-19 for the last 78 days

The Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch (IRCS MSB) has stated that they are fighting against COVID-19 in Manipur for the last 78 days as an auxiliary to the Government through a series of activities.
A press release signed by the secretary of IRCS MSB, RK Nimai Singh said that the volunteers of Red Cross are joining the medical team in the thermal screening of 6,575 stranded Manipuri people who returned from other States at Jiribam Railway Station by Shamrik Special Train.
Red Cross volunteers are working 24x7 at the District Screening Centres at Modern College and Oriental College by opening Enquiry Counter, helping the returnees in physical distancing, education them about COVID-19, distributing snacks and juice, organising and sending them to the respective Community Quarantine Centres and imparting training on stress management, he said and added that the volunteers are assisting the District Administration in opening and managing with quarantine centres at Chandel and Senapati districts.
RK Nimai also said that 15 sets of mobile toilet kits were issued for use in the District screening centres and community quarantine centres on the request of Deputy Commissioners of Thoubal, Imphal West, Imphal East and Chandel.
Over 5,000 units of hand sanitizers, 2000 three-layer masks and 1000 pair of gloves have been distributed to the volunteers, women vendors, orphan homes and rehabilitation centres, he said and added that dry rations were also distributed to 242 widows of Ashagi Mangal Project (Eco livelihood) located in 4 districts.
RK Nimai also stated that 550 kgs of vegetables and 5 bags of rice were distributed to 15 orphan homes.
Continuing that nearly 70 units of blood were donated by IRCS volunteers from 4 districts of Manipur to make available blood to those in need during the lockdown in association with RIMS, JNIMS and Thoubal District Hospital, he added that officials of Red Cross extended relief materials to the fire victims of Thinungei whose house was gutted and also enquired on the fire incident at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai, which destroyed a shop.
