Imphal, April 23 2019:
MPCC president and former Dy CM Gaikhangam has alleged that the repoll of the Kendras under the CM as well as two other Ministers, is a blatant sign that power was misused during the recent election.
He made the statement during Khongjom Day observation at Congress Bhawan today under the aegis of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
Speaking at the event Gaikhangam said that it is extremely shameful that a repoll for the area under the CM's jurisdiction is being called for a repoll and explained that the decision for a repoll was fixed by the ECI.
Welcoming the decision for a repoll at 12 polling stations of Imphal East district, the ex DY CM alleged that the polling stations requested for a repoll were rife with unethical voting practice, rigging, booth capture etc.
He then asked what the situation will be in the remote parts of the State if such practices are rampant even in Imphal area.
Gaikhangam continued that it is extremely suspicious that the voter turnout surpassed 90 percent and added that there is suspicion that even the EVMs might have been manipulated.
He then questioned why EVMs were not stored in the strong rooms on time and were often delayed as well as why the strong rooms were opened at all.
On the other hand, Gaikhangam said that Khongjom Day is observed in memory of the brave soldiers and forefathers who valiantly fought for the motherland.
CLP leaders and ex CM Okram Ibobi said that Khongjom Day is an important day for the State and on this day, the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.
Floral tributes were paid to the photos of Paona Brajabashi during the event which was attended by Congress MLAs, workers, Mahila workers.
