Imphal, April 23 2013:
Announcing that an investigation into the Alice Kamei case has revealed that the girl joined RPF/PLA of her own will, Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has categorically clarified that it is not a party to the total bandh being called along the National Highways by Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students' Union.
Addressing media persons in this connection at its Paona Bazar office here today, Amu Kamei, President of ZU (AMN), informed that a meeting in connection with the case of Alice Kamei was held in the office of ZU few days back.
Attended by representatives of Zeliangrong Students Union, Zeliangrong Youth Front, authorities of Grace Academy where Alice Kamei was studying and her family members, the meeting unanimously resolved to close down the school for some time until a solution is brought out over the issue peacefully.
Apart from this, no other resolutions had been taken in the said meeting, he said.
However, the very next day, a total bandh along all the National Highways was announced by some persons in the name of Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students Union without giving prior information to Zeliangrong Union, which is the apex body of the Zeliangrong community, he added.
Amu Kamei observed that the total bandh has been called at a time when the people of the State are facing various problems.
So, the ongoing highway bandh, is not in any way related to Zeliangrong Union and Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students' union should be held responsible for any unwanted incident that may occur during the course of the bandh.
Meanwhile, reacting to the charges leveled against them by AZSU, ZSUM and ZYF, a joint statement issued by General Secretary of ZU (AMN) K Pushinglung and General Secretary of KAMA Ranjita Golmei asserted that the only concern of ZU and KAMA is for the safe release of the missing girls and not to muddle the issue and be politically motivated to create misunderstanding and chaos among the people.
The allegation made through media was the decision of only some individuals who hold the post of Presidents or chairmen of the students/youth organizations and not the decision of the entire students/youth communities.
It is unfortunate that the issue of Alice Kamei is now out of order due to the ignorance and myopic decision of these leaders, the joint statement counter-charged.
