LYDA bans use of intoxicants

Imphal, June 22 2020:
The Langmeithet Youth Development Association (LYDA) has banned the use of all intoxicating substances including alcohol and smoking tobacco in the Langmeithet area of Heirok Assembly Constituency (AC), Thoubal district from today.
In its statement, LYDA and the residents of Langmeithet village has appealed to all concerned, especially the youths to refrain from using any intoxicationg substance alongside the roads leading to neighbouring villages of Seram Tangkhul, Uyal, Kairenkhok and Thokchom.
The association condemned the youths and male folks who, taking advantage of deserted roads due to COVID-19 lockdown, are engaging in such illicit activities, making the roads unsafe for women and children to travel.
Although there are no restrictions on shooting or filming of videos, taking pictures etc in these areas, it has requested visitors to abstain from using intoxicating substances.
LYDA had also previously issued warnings to those who were caught indulging in such activities, however, it has cautioned that strong actions will now be taken up with the help of the police against such person(s) .
Further, it also appealed to all the clubs and Meira Paibis of neighbouring villages to support the cause by banning drugs, alcohol and like substances in their respective areas.
Meanwhile, an executive committee meeting of the Nongchup Imphal Palem Ima Apunba Lup (NIMPAL) Langthabal branch was held on June 17 at the residence of NIMPAL advisor Yendrembam Tamphal in Langthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai.
The meeting was presided over by NIMPAL president Sapam Purnima, said the press statement.
The meeting resolved that use and abuse of intoxicating substances like alcohol, pills and other drugs and gambling activities will be completely banned and prohibited in all the areas falling within the jurisdiction of NIMPAL Langthabal branch such as Narankonjel, Langthabal Kunja, Haoreibi, Palak, Karam and Takhellambam Konjel.
Further, if anyone is found indulging in any of the above mentioned activities, strong action(s) in accordance with law will be taken up against them, it added.
