Imphal, December 21 2011:
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has reportedly apprised the Election Commission of India to clearly define the constitution of Naga People's Front (NPF) with particular , reference to 'Nagaland Citizens'.
Responding to a query from the MPP legislator O Joy Singh in the morning session of the ongoing Manipur Legislative Assembly today, the Chief Minister maintained that he had submitted an official letter to the ECI seeking detailed information on the status of the Nagaland-based political organisation.
Earlier, O Joy drew the attention of the House that citizens of India are not differentiated as Bengal or Maharashtra citizens and as such the NPF inserting 'Citizens of Nagaland' clause in its constitution merits explanation.
Wondering on what ground the ECI had granted recognition to NPF as a political organisation when its constitution incorporates 'citizens of Nagaland' clause, Joy termed the ECI's acceptance as erroneous and unconstitutional.
The MPP leader also suggested that the House adopt a resolution and apprise the Centre for reviewing recognition of NPF.
On the said issue, the Chief Minister reminded that soon after setting up of the NPF's Manipur unit an all-political party meeting had perused constitution of the NPF and had even deliberated on whether or not to entertain setting up of the unit office.
Noting that the NPF constitution amounts to legitimising 'dual citizenship', Ibobi also endorsed proposal, if any, on a House resolution to highlight the matter to Central leaders for revision.
He also contended that issue has been highlighted to the ECI yesterday.
