Don't look for quota alone: Dy CM

"We must not wait only for reservation or quota but put in effort to be a topper in every competition which come on our way, said Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam while speaking at the Silver Jubilee celebration of Representatives of Lois, Kakching.
The event was held at Kakching Khullen Ibudhou Khamlangba Laikol yesterday.
The celebration was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as chief guest, Kakching A/C MLA Y Surchandra and Wabagai A/C MLA Md Fajur Rahim as guests of honour and ROL president Th Ojit Kumar as functional president.
In his speech, Gaikhangam said that unlike other States, sense of caste and community difference is not that prevalent in the State.
People of different communities and castes are living together harmoniously in the State, he said and added that people must be thankful to the State Government for implementing the reservation policy effectively as per the guidelines of the Central Government.
Saying that the Government had come across some anomalies in the reservation policy 2-3 years back, Gaikhangam said that the mistake has been rectified now.
SC/ST or OBC candidate who secures top position in the merit list would be taken as a General candidate and the quota would be kept reserved for other SC/ST or OBC candidates now, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister also exhorted the SC/ST and OBC candidates to put in effort to secure top position in different competitions instead of relying on quota and reservation.
Such determination would bring glory to the particular community he/she belongs to in particular and the State in general, he added.
Regarding Kakching, Gaikhangam said that he is pleased on seeing the development of Uyok Garden as one of the most favourite tourist spots of the State.
Lauding MLA Surchandra for developing the garden, the Deputy Chief Minister expressed desire to see similar gardens in every district and Sub-Divisional headquarters.
Maintaining that Kakching has emerged as a developed area in every field including sports and education, Gaikhangam said that people of other areas of the State must learn from the people of Kakching in terms of hard work, work culture and determination.
Regarding the memorandum submitted by the students of Kha Manipur College, Kakching, Gaikhangam said that he would look into the matter of Post Matric Scholarships for SC students and forward the matter of infrastructure inadequacy of the college to the concerned Minister.
He announced that the Central Government had granted opening of three girls' hostels for SC students - two in Kakching and one in Sekmai.
Founders and leaders of Repersentatives of Lois were felicitated at the function.
