Chitreswar Sharma honoured with Gopal Sharma Award

Imphal, March 21 2018:
On the occasion of World Poetry Day, Gopal Sharma Award 2018 was conferred to renowned writer Aribam Chitreswar Sharma during a function organized by SahityaThoupang Lup at Priyogopalsana Auditorium, Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy today.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10000, a shawl and a citation.
A Chitreswar Sharma was honoured with the award in recognition of his remarkable contribution in the field of literature.
As part of the function, altogether 10 persons recited poems written by (L) Hijam Anganghal in connection with the year long 125th birth anniversary observance of the poet.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, CAF&PD Minister Karam Shyam said that poetry is an indispensable part of literature and those who do not know the value of poetry will not be able to grasp the nuances of reading out poems before an audience.
He lauded Sahitya Thoupang Lup for coming up with such meaningful initiatives to encourage poets of the State.
He observed that there is an apparent need to respect freedom of expression of media in States like Manipur where there are multiple conflicts.
The Minister assured that he would not raise objection to media activities and instead he would extend all possible assistance to the media in its endeavours.
Former president of Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Professor Nongmaithem Tombi presided over the function.
