Awareness programme on 'Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse' held

With the objective to discuss the ill effects of drug abuse and raise awareness against it, the District Social Welfare Office, Thoubal organised a one day awareness and sensitization programme on 'Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse' under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign, Thoubal at SECDO Hall, Kshetri Leikai, Thoubal in association with Social Educational and Cultural Development Organization (SECDO), KRC, Kshetri Leikai Women Development Association and Youth for Tomorrow (YFT), Kshetri Leikai, today.
The Programme was attended by Puyam Joteshwar Meitei, Councilor Ward No 3, Thoubal Kshetri Leikai; Yumnam Laksman Singh, member, Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee, Thoubal and Waikhom Ibohal Singh, Retired District Youth Coordinator, NYK as presidium members.
During the programme, the dignitaries appealed to the participants to take every advantage of such programmes and spread the message in the district.
They stressed on the need for reduction in both demand and supply of drugs in our community and also urged the youth to know more about their role in the fight against drugs while calling on the CSOs and Government to work collectively towards achieving a society free from drug menace and its implications.
Dr Khangenbam Robindro Singh, Psychiatrist, Member Secretary, Manipur State Mental Health Authority cum DNO, District Mental Health Society, Chandel, also attended the programme as resource person.
Addressing the programme, Dr Khangenbam Robindro encouraged the participants to tackle the problem of drug addiction together by referring the addicts to Hospitals and Integrated Rehabilitation Centres (IRCA).
He expressed the importance of a supportive environment to protect a recovering addict from relapse and asked the youth to focus on capacity building and to take full advantage of such awareness.
Dr Khangenbam Robindro further urged the family, friends and community to know more about their role against this social disease and not to discriminate against the addicts.
