Imphal, February 21 2017:
Accusing BJP of trying to wrest political power from Congress in cahoots with UNC, NSCN-IM and other militant groups, MPCC spokesman Kh Joykisan has stated that Congress party and the people of Manipur would defeat the BJP's design.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, Joykisan said that the BJP's attempt to wrest political power with the help of guns would never succeed.
He urged BJP to state their position regarding the UNC.
Recalling that one BJP spokesperson pledged to abolish UNC in case they come to power, Joykisan questioned the rival political party's silence when Congress demanded declaration of UNC as an unlawful organisation.
It was rather surprising BJP leaders were saying that declaration of UNC as an unlawful organisation was a prerogative of the State Government.
The Government of India may declare an organisation as unlawful under the Unlawful Prevention Act 1967 .
The Act does not contain any para which states that State Government should recommend first before any organisation is declared as unlawful.
Even as the Act does not say about whether the State should make a recommendation or not, the CLP recommended the Central Government to declare UNC as an unlawful organisation.
If the Government of India thinks that the CLP's recommendation is justified, it should outlaw the UNC, Joykisan said.
He further remarked that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's verbal assurance that the Framework Agreement would not affect Manipur was not convincing enough.
If BJP is genuinely committed to safeguard the integrity of Manipur, they should come out with an announcement that the Framework Agreement and the peace talk going on between the Government of India and NSCN-IM would be restricted to the State of Nagaland alone, Joykisan said.
They (BJP) should also ask their candidates contesting the election in hill districts to pledge that they would safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Pointing out that Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has been openly opposing NSCN-IM and its sinister agenda apart from pledging to safeguard the integrity of Manipur, Joykisan went on to ask why BJP leaders who hail from hill districts cannot speak a single word against NSCN-IM.
