Imphal, May 20 2018:
The All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) has strongly condemned the rude behaviour and firing of slingshot pellets by one bandh supporter against N Sanajaoba, a reporter of ISTV who went to cover the Manipur bandh called by the JAC against unnatural shifting oflmphal East District Hospital today.
A press release issued by the secretary general of AMWJU stated that an emergency meeting of AMWJU standing committee was held regarding the issue and explained that the unfortunate incident occurred when the reporter, Sanajaoba went to cover the developing situation regarding the District Hospital issue.
The reporter came across a group of womenfolk at Yumnam Patlou during his journey but after identifying himself as a journalist he was allowed to go.
But he had driven around only 100 metres from the spot, towards Sagolmang side when a man standing beside the road shot at him with a slingshot.
When the reporter tried to identify himself as a journalist, the man claimed that he did not care and demanded the reporter to go back and began preparing his slingshot again.
But when the womenfolk intervened and told the man that Sanajaoba was indeed a journalist, he turned tail and fled from .
the scene.
When Sanajaoba asked the women if they knew who the man was, they claimed that they did not know him.
However, when the reporter warned that the situation would escalate if reported to AMWJU, the womenfolk revealed that the man was one Waikhom Tonjao s/o W Samjai of Patlou.
Vehemently condemning the incident, AMWJU demanded the erring individual to apologise to Sanajaoba and AMWJU' within two days and warned that proper legal actions would be taken up if he fails to do so.
