North East Development Summit : State Govt readies to roll out red carpets

Due preparations for the first North East Development Summit, which would be attended by about 175 delegates including a representative of the United Nations are almost complete.
The summit would be held at City Convention Hall here as part of the upcoming Sangai Festival.
Talking about the State's preparation for the summit at a press conference this evening at the CM's Secretariat Cabinet Hall, Chief Minister N Biren said that delegates of some companies who will sign MoUs with the Govt have started arriving here.
The summit, slated to be held on Nov 21 and 22, is being jointly organised by Govt of Manipur, Ministry of Commerce and Industries and India Foundation.
President Ram Nath Kovind will formally inaugurate the summit on Nov 21 at 2 pm.
Amongst others, UN Resident Coordinator Yuri Afanasiev, Union Minister for Commerce and Industries Suresh Prabhu, Union Tourism Minister Alfonse J Kannanthanam, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha, Chief Ministers of Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh will attend the summit.
Chief Minister of Arunchal Pradesh Prem Khandu will arrive here tomorrow, CM N Biren said.
Ambassadors of Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Brunei, China and Bangladesh will attend the North East Development Summit.
Besides, companies/investors from Taipei, Sweden, Myanmar, Laos and Japan will also participate in the summit.
N Biren also informed that about 3 6 renowned companies/firms from India like Reliance, Taj Hotel Groups, Godrej, L&T, ADB, Air Asia, SBI, HDFC, Apollo Hospitals will participate in the summit.
Delegates of some ofthese companies/firms are coming in chartered flights to attend the summit.
Among other trade and commerce associations, FICCI, CII, NASSCOM, Border Trade Moreh, Myanmar-India Business Chamber, India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Laos National Chamber of Commerce and Industries will send delegates in the summit, he said.
Some MoUs and Agreements are likely to be finalised with these companies/firms/associations, N Biren said.
In order to make meaningful business discussions and make the summit a success, CM N Biren sought the cooperation of all concerned and appealed to all concerned (hill and valley) not to cause any disturbances or inconvenience to the delegates who are coming to attend the summit.
The CM also said that a special cultural programme will be organised for delegates of the summit at Loktak Lake on Nov 22 .
Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog Rajeev Kumar and Secretary of DoNER Naveen Verma will also take part in the summit.
