Recognise the role of journalists: Khogendra

Asserting that journalists of the State, particularly the Editors and reporters, are sometimes overwhelmed and often feel like leaving their job when the threats and disturbances faced by them become routine and life threatening, Editors' Guild, Manipur (EGM) president Khogendra Khomdram said that recognizing the role of journalists and encouraging them will help the journalists in carrying out their job diligently inspite of many professional hazards.
Speaking as the chief guest during the inaugural function of the 2nd Summer Camp and reception of newly elected office bearers of EGM organized by UNACCO School and Sanaleibak Publication at the UNACCO School, Khongman Zone III, Imphal East today, Khogendra said that media persons are encouraged, motivated and provided the strength to move forward when various CSOs and the society express concern regarding the threats on the journalists of the State.
Explaining that encouraging scribes do not necessarily mean organizing functions in a bigger way, Khogendra, who is also the editor of The Sangai Express (Manipuri Edition) conveyed that apart from Editors, reporters too must be encouraged as they also work under strong pressure and often encounter many horrible and life threatening situations while executing their duties.
He also lauded UNACCO School for making a significant contribution towards shaping the education sector of the State by introducing a comprehensive form of education.
Khogendra added that education, in the present day, cannot be limited only to teaching and learning inside classrooms, but also requires encompassing all the aspects necessary for the children/students to live a quality life in the society in the future.
He exuded confidence that UNACCO School will continue to take a pivotal role in the society by making even more significant contribution in the field of education.
Speaking at the function, UNACCO School Chairman N Irabanta Singh observed that the present status of higher education system in the State is not satisfactory and informed that only two of the total 58 colleges existing in the State can earn A Grade status.
He went on to highlight that only around 53,000 students are studying in the said 58 colleges adding that such trend of education will become a great hurdle in the growth of the society.
He claimed that to ensure a bright and developed Manipur, the people of the State, particularly the student community and the youth, need to engage in the race for technological advancement.
Stating that UNACCO Group give special emphasis on comprehensive education system, including digital literacy and co-curricular activities, Irabanta reiterated that a college will soon be established with the aim of nurturing human resources thereby inculcating all the required values in the students.
He said that the five days summer camp flagged off today, was part of the comprehensive education system imparted in UNACCO School.
He added that many activities, including rope walking climbing as well as personality development programs, adventure sports, yoga, dance and music, art and craft event, will be organized during the camp.
On the other hand, Impact TV Chief Editor Yumnam Rupachandra conveyed that EGM was formed with the objective of creating a free working atmosphere for all the Editors and journalists by tackling the threats received by the media fraternity of the State.
The function was also attended by Editors of many local dailies, including Poknapham Editor A Robindro Sharma, Hueiyen Lanpao Editor N Hemantakumar and Kangla Pao Editor P Labango Mangang.
