Imphal, December 18 2024:
Opposing the proposed plan to set up a solid waste plant at the premises of Spastic Society of Manipur, a group of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) staged a protest at Tapokpi Bazar, Narankonjin Langthabal Kunja today.
According to the protestors, the Spastic Society of Manipur is akin to a temple for the PWDs of the State.
The Society has played an invaluable role in upskilling, educating and providing employment to PWDs who have been ostracized by society and helping them lead dignified lives, they said.
Denouncing the plan to set up a solid waste management plant at the premises of the Society, the protesting PWDs urged all related organisations and State CSOs to help save the Society.
On another note, they appealed for the construction of an indoor stadium here while adding that a letter was also submitted to the Sports Minister with the same request.
Strongly appealing against any form of disruption to the lives of the PWDs for whom the Society is like a home, the protestors further sought the help of local clubs, elders and other residents to help save the Society.
The PWDs held placards with messages such as "No solid waste plant in and around our campus", "Respect our school boundaries", "Pray for your support", "We want peaceful coexistence", "Show love to PWDs" among others.
