Imphal, November 18 2020:
Sericulture Minister A wangbow Newmai inspected seri farms and nurseries located at Ishingthembi, Lairok Kom, Yumnam Khunou, Tangkham, Leitanpokpi and Khewa Phurju Pukhao in Imphal East District today.
He was accompanied by Sericulture Director L Kunjakishore Singh and other officials.
Newmai stated that the various Government schemes under the Sericulture Department are huge avenues for the unemployed people of the State to generate income as it is not feasible to provide Government jobs to all the citizens.
He also assured that he will provide all possible help to the beneficiaries.
The Minister added that he will visit all the seri farms in Imphal West and Bishnupur district within this week to check the ground reality and to interact with the beneficiaries and to address their concerns and problems.
Newmai also stated that the beneficiaries need not worry about the marketplace to sell their produce as the raw silk will be bought either by the Sericulture Department or by the weavers since there is huge demand for raw silk materials which the State is unable to fulfil.
One of the farmers at Leitanpokpi expressed contentment over the Minister's visit stating that the visit has encouraged them to work harder as no Ministers had visited the seri farms earlier.
