MDU observes 55th Artistes' Day

Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) observed the 55th Artistes' Day Celebration 2025 at the auditorium of MDU located at Yaiskul Police Lane.
The ceremony was accompanied by the handing over of Khomdram Dhanachandra Memorial Award.
Notable dignitaries including Kangjam Radhakumar, retd IAS and president of Manipur Cultural Organization; Dr Nongthombam Premchand, president, Critics Forum Manipur and Akademi Awardee Soraisam Kesoram, president MDU graced the event as the chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
Floral tributes were offered on the portraits of deceased artistes as a mark of honour during the 55th Artistes' Day celebration.
Speaking on the occasion, Kangjam Radhakumar stated that one should engage in public welfare activities and leave a legacy for posterity.
"We should remember the good deeds of our forefathers and promote such actions that will bear fruits for the community", he added.
Additionally, Loitongbam Brajamohon, director, Rupmahal Theatre from Hiyangthang Makha Leikai was bestowed with the prestigious Khomdram Dhanachandra Memorial Award today.
The award comes with Rs 10,000 in cash, Kokyet (traditional headwear), cheisu (walking stick), shawl and a citation.
Loitongbam Brajamohon is also a recipient of the Natya Bhushan Award 2023 for his contributions in the field of theatre.
MDU artistes showcased a play titled "Meenungshi" directed by T Priyobarta Singh before the gathering.
