Winter session of Manipur Assembly from Dec 27

State cabinet today, while taking a decision to recommend the Governor to summon the winter session of the state Assembly on December 27, once again discussed the short supply of petroleum products in the state.
Taking serious note of the scarcity of petroleum products being faced in the state, Cabinet decided to summon secretary (North East in-charge) of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to apprise him of the short comings on the part of the IOC in the short supply of these products in the state, SPF spokesperson IFCD minister, N Biren said after the cabinet meeting today.
He said that the IOC secretary, North East in-charge has been summoned and he is arriving tomorrow to take part in a high level meeting convened by the Chief Minister.
The meeting will be held at 2 .
pm at the Chief Minister's secretariat, he said.
Mention may be made that the state is reeling under an acute shortage of petroleum products, particularly petrol and diesel.
Due to heavy police drives against black marketers and non-opening of petrol outlets on a regular basis, people are facing great hardship in buying petrol and diesel.
Even with black marketers out of sight, petrol and diesel are being bought at much higher rates by the consumers as retail outlets are not opened regularly.
The state cabinet held today under the chair of the Chief Minister also discussed among other agendas, summoning the winter session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, holding of elections to the municipal councils and nagar panchayats, etc.
The cabinet also reviewed the progress work of clearance of Phumdi in Loktak Lake.
While discussing the summoning of the winter session of the Assembly, the cabinet decided to recommend the Governor to summon the session from December 27 .
The session is likely to continue till December 29.However, the number of sittings and business to be transacted will be decided by the Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly after a meeting is held after the Governor has summoned the session.
The cabinet also discussed on the conducting of the elections to the urban bodies of municipal councils and nagar panchayats under the rules framed under the recently enacted Manipur Municipality Community Participation Act, 1009, the spokesperson said.
The notification for holding the elections is likely to be issued on November 22 as the cabinet has recommended to hold the election on December 18, hinted the minister adding that the cabinet also discussed on the areas to be covered by the election code of conduct once the notification is issued.
Mention may be made that the state election commission had already started preparation for the conduct of the elections to the urban bodies.
While reviewing the progress work of clearance of phumdi in Loktak lake, the cabinet decided to hike the quantity of fuel allocated to the agency implementing the project.
