Tamenglong, July 15 2014: During the one day consultation meeting on land and natural resources held today at UBC Hall, Tamenglong, HQs, which was jointly organised by VACC Tamenglong, ZSU Tamenglong District, ZYF Tamenglong Zone and VVD Manipur, resolution to protect the natural and cultural heritage were adopted unanimously.

The resolution said that the Government must be clearly informed and cautioned to take no further steps to implement the NLUP, 2014 on the Draft Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Social impact Assessment and Consent) (Manipur) Rules 2014 through local media.

The Government must support a State level joint consultation on on these documents concerned that included all the ethnic communities of the State which should also cover the landless people with sincere intention of promulgating the most appropriate and beneficial policy and rules.

Asserting that the present Draft Rules need to examined minutely by everyone as it may be a treachery to democracy an d its principles, the Draft rules must be made available in every nook and corner of all the Districts of Manipur.

The meeting also discussed on the present manipur new Land Use Policy/Project and stated that the project is not based on any National or international public policy framework, principles or guidelines and is insufficient with many irreconcilable contradictions.
