Imphal, December 14 2020:
A one day training cum interaction programme on the theme 'Cultivation of Rabi crops for doubling farmers' income' was organised today by Directorate of Research CAU under the sponsorship of ICAR Central Institute for Cotton Research, Regional Station, Coimbatore, at CAU headquarters Lamphelpat.
The programme was attended by Prof Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor CAU; Prof Ratan Kumar Saha, Director of extension education CAU; N Indubuson Singh, president Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Manipur Prant and Dr S Bashanta Singh, Director of Research CAU as presidium members while Dr AK Bijaya and Dr M Dinachandra Singh were present as experts on the topic.
Seeds were distributed to the farmers in the programme.
Prof Anupam Mishra said India produced more than 298 million tonnes of food grains during the COVID-19 pandemic which was the highest production in the country post-independence and with this India became a food surplus Nation leaving behind the food deficit country tag.
All this was, in fact, the result of the hard labour of all the farmers in the country, he added.
"If we have to increase the income of the farmers, some principles need to be applied including crop diversification, crop productivity, farm mechanisation, market linkage, value addition and reducing the cost of production," he added.
Prof Anupam Mishra added that lots of people are agitating against the Krishi Bill 2020, but the Bill will be helpful to the farmers in the long run by connecting farmers from far flung places like Manipur to the National market and agricultural organisations.
