Demanding arrest of the killers of Vice President of Manipur People's Party (MPP) Haobijam Manisana (63), who was shot dead by unknown armed assailants in his moving car at Changangei Ucheckon along Tiddim Road near Tulihal Airport yesterday, a 24-hour State wide bandh has been called with effect from 5 am tomorrow.
The bandh has been called by Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the killing.
It may be recalled here that Manisana, who originally hailed from Thanga Chingkha but stayed at Bishnupur Ward no.1 near the DC Office, was gunned down while coming to party office all alone in his Maruti Alto car to attend a meeting by some unknown armed assailants who followed him in a Bolero jeep in broad daylight at around 10 am yesterday.

Meanwhile, condemning the assassination of MPP Vice-President Haobijam Manisana at Changangei Ucheckon along Tiddim Road in broad day light yesterday, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the portfolio of Home Department, has assured that the culprits would be arrested and punished soon.
Talking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, Gaikhangam said that the activities of anti-social elements in the State are rising.
The time has come for all to join hands to root out those anti-social elements and bring peace and harmony in the State.
Moreover, people should not hesitate to render cooperation to the State agencies to nab those culprits involved in the murder of MPP leader.
He further said that violence and bloodshed would not bring any solution.
The murder of political leaders would be a setback to the democratic setups of the State.
The political leaders could be targeted anytime by the anti-social elements.
The State Government would further strengthen security measures and ensure safety to all people.
Gaikhangam also assured that the State Government would render all possible assistances to the family of deceased Manisana.
On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister slammed All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) for causing hindrance to the implementation of national projects, especially railway project in Tamenglong district.
He suggested that all issues should be resolved though dialogues and not by means of violence.
The social organizations should also avoid the habit of calling bandhs and blockades whenever there is some problem or issue, Gaikhangam appealed.
