Blind School rape case:: Director SW, Headmistress suspended

Director in charge of Social Welfare Department, L Ibobi has been suspended from service for his negligence in handling the Ideal Blind School girl rape case which has sparked statewide outrage.
According to an order issued by A Subhas Singh, Deputy Secretary (DP), following disciplinary proceedings against him, MCS officer Ibobi has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
The order which was issued yesterday further said that the 'headquarters of the suspended officer shall be Imphal and he shall not leave the capital without obtaining permission of the competent authority' .
Meanwhile, sources said Headmistress of the Government Ideal Blind School, W Binokumari has also been suspended from service on the charge of attempting to destroy evidence by submitting wrong information on the rape case to the police.
In her report, the headmistress mentioned that it was a molestation case, not rape, sources added.
On the other hand, several organizations of differently-abled persons on Saturday threatened to launch an intense protest against the Government Ideal Blind School rape incident beginning July 1 next unless the police file chargesheet against the rape accused and chowkidar of the school Him Bahadur Thapa by June 30.This was announced by president of Welfare Association for the Blind, Manipur, M Henry at a joint press meet at Home for the Blind, Takyel here.
Representatives of Handicapped Development Foundation, Manipur and Angamba Disabed People Organisation were also present at the press meet.
Henry said the Government should not take the rape case for granted and demanded prompt action to bring accused Thapa to justice.
He warned that the handicapped bodies will launch agitation beginning July 1 next if the concerned authorities fail to file chargesheet against the accused by June 30 .
Thapa (50) has been accused of raping a 13-year-old girl student of the Government Ideal Blind School, Takyel.
He was arrested by police a few days ago and is now in police custody.
Henry expressed concern that if the rape accused is not punished, there is apprehension that the trust and confidence of parents, whose wards are studying at the school, could be lost.
"We demand prompt justice.
We also want the Government to extend help and support to the minor victim" he added.
