MANIREDA likely to be eclipsed by RD&PR

Imphal, November 13 2012: With solar plates and other equipments worth around Rs 5 crores taken on credit by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD&PR) and still not being paid the amount, Manipur Renewal Energy Development Society (MANIREDA) is in a state of total collapse at present.

According to official sources in MANIREDA, solar plates and other relevant goods worth around Rs 5 crores were brought from the Bharat Electronics Limited, a Bangalore based company for RD&PR by MANIREDA.

From the said amount, an amount of around Rs 1 crore was to be received by MANIREDA for installation and other miscellaneous charges.

But the whole amount has not been paid by RD&PR since 2010 .

Many Solar Street lamps have been installed in various Gram Panchayats of Manipur under a project taken up by MANIREDA since 2010.Around Rs 26 crores have been incurred in installation of solar lamps.

Under this, around 3,713 Solar lamps have been installed in different Gram Panchayats.

Since the amount to be paid to Bharat Electronics Limited has not been given for the last two years, the relation between MANIREDA and Bharat Electronics Limited has also become strained.

There are apprehensions that the amount to be paid off for the solar plates and other relevant goods brought from Bharat Electronics Limited, may have been misused by some officials of RD&PR .

Even as MANIREDA is facing the problem of non-payment of dues, many of the solar street lamps installed along the road side of various villages of the state have become worn out and the batteries some of lamps stolen, sources disclosed.
