Protest rally demands justice for Bashanti, Lanchenbi

The JAC Against the Unnatural Death of Bashanti & Lanchenbi organised a protest rally on Sunday demanding justice for Bashanti and Lanchenbi, the mother and daughter duo who were found dead under mysterious circumstances.
Ningombam Bashanti and her 4-year-old daughter, Lanchenbi were found dead inside their home on September 23 .
The rally, participated by hundreds of Meira Paibis, commenced from Haoreibi Kangjeibung and passed through various areas of Haoreibi.
During the rally, the participants displayed placards with slogans such as "Save Women", "Save Girl Child", "Stop Crime Against Women & Children", "We want justice for Bashanti and Lanchenbi", "Stop Killing Children", etc.
A public meeting was also conducted after the rally.
It was participated by representatives of different clubs, organisations and civil society organisations.
Speaking at the meeting, JAC co-convenor Ningombam Shama lamented that it's been 21 days since the mother and daughter duo were found dead under mysterious circumstances and the authorities concerned have failed to provide any clues about their death.
She also asserted that the report of the post-mortem examination which was conducted at RIMS on September 24 has not been disclosed to the JAC till date.
The co-convenor reiterated that the bodies of the mother and daughter will not be claimed until the report is made available and the truth about their death is known.
Ningombam Shama further demanded swift investigation to ascertain the true nature of the deaths and urged the Chief Minister to convert his promises into action at the earliest.
Notably, the meeting took a number of resolutions including demanding the Government to set up a Special Investigation Team to conduct a speedy investigation and deliver justice to the victims at the earliest.
