Enviroment based music fest on Sept 15

'Where Have All The Flowers Gone?', an environment based music and art festival will be organised at Konsang Lampak, Phayeng, tomorrow and on September 15.Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, founder member of Where Have All The Flowers Gone?, Lairenlakpam Chinglemba said that the festival began from 2014 and this is the 6th iteration of the festival.
Pointing out that the music and art festival is based towards the environment, he said that as a part of the festival, painting competition for children, bicycle rally, tree plantation and screening of films related to the environment will be done.
He then informed that the two days festival will be organised in collaboration with Chakpa Phayeng Semgatpa Lup.
Chinglemba narrated that the first iteration of the festival, organised at Chingnungkhok, received a very positive response from the people.
The number of visitors gradually increased with every iteration of the festival, Chinglemba said, explaining that the festival was initially crowd funded and did not have any sponsor.
Now, many sponsors have started providing necessary assistance, he said, expressing belief that the people will continue to support the festival in the future as well.
The founder member also lamented that lack of funds has been preventing the festival from being organised in the hill areas of the State.
On the other hand, Chakpa Phayeng Semgatpa Lup publicity secretary Angom Jiten lauded the festival for being based on the environment.
He explained that the back side of Konsang Lampak, where the festival will be organised, is covered by a lush growth of trees which have been there since time immemorial.
Around 115 different varieties of trees grow in the said area, he said adding that the festival will help create awareness about the area to the public, he added.
Stating that around 500 acres of Phayeng are covered with dense growth and trees, Jiten said that the current trend of tree plantation in the State needs proper monitoring.
If the trees are planted and properly monitored, they will survive and mature,
he added.
