Imphal, July 13 2020:
Expressing concern over the recent recurrence of COVID-19 after an individual was discharged, All Manipur Nupi Marup has urged all concerned to hand out discharge certificates to inmates and COVID patients only after conducting careful re-test or in other words more tests before COVID-19 patients are discharged.
All Manipur Nupi Marup, in a statement, said that guidelines issued by World Health Organisation (WHO) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) are the only means to avoid the contagion since there is no known cure to the disease yet.
It also continued to laud the role of medical teams of RIMS and JNIMS who are doing their best to treat the COVID-19 patients and ensure speedy recoveries.
The body however expressed their desire to hand out discharge certificates to these patients not on the basis of a couple of tests but after more tests before their subsequent discharge from the respective hospital, covid care centre or quarantine centres.
Such tests will greatly reduce chances of discharged patients testing positive for the virus for the second time, it said.
The recent case of an individual testing positive after being discharged and completion of home quarantine period had created uneasiness in everyone's mind and caused inconveniences to many who came in contact with the person and people living nearby the person's residence with the announcement of the containment zone, it said.
The authorities concerned should therefore be very careful at the time of serving discharge certificates as prolonged lockdown has affected everyone and such tension, anxiety and fear will further affect their mental health, it said.
