Imphal, June 13 2019:
The Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur, has conveyed that a joint inspection team comprising of Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur, Zeme Naga Council Manipur and Thadou Student Association witnessed an alleged illegal encroachment into Tousem division, Tamenglong district by people of Jiribam by taking down all the district gate and sign boards, which is a grave deception to the people of Tamenglong.
A press release issued by the communication cell of Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur, alleged that the All Jiribam Drivers Union and unauthorised police outpost of Leingangpokpi are carrying out extortions from the vehicles plying along the road and Manipur commando personnel of Jiribam were also seen in Kaiphundai jurisdiction allegedly frisking all vehicles and collecting huge amounts of money from the trucks.
But all the blames are put upon 'Naga underground', maintained the statement.
Regarding the incident, it claimed that the members of the joint inspection team introduced themselves before the staff of the union but the staff claimed that they could not identify any of the member, which is a blatant lie.
The said team urged the driver union and the police to stop all fraudulent activities which will tarnish the image of tribal people of Tamenlgong, claimed the statement and went on to state that the claims made by the staff of the driver union of Jiribam that Leingangpokpi is under Jiribam district, is unfounded and baseless.
Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur stated that the staff also claimed that the very site, where they collect money, is land given by the Revenue Officer of Jiribam district.
The organisation further urged the State Government to book the said Revenue Officer at the earliest and added that the antics of the people of Jiribam must be stopped at once and the concocted claim of NH 53/37 to be the border of Jiribam and Tamenglong is null and void as the land and resources of Tamenglong have been existing since time immemorial and the NH-53/37 has nothing to do with the border issue/jurisdiction.
It maintained that if Kaiphundai and Leingangpokpi were under Jiribam district, the people of Tousem would have acquired their voter rights in Jiribam as well as the developmental facilities of Jiribam but nothing of the sort has happened till date, which are solid proof that the said lands are under Tamenglong district.
It then claimed that it has learnt that the district revenue officer of Jiribam has been issuing fake pattas to make Jiribam people flood over into Tousem division and demanded the Government to look after every needs of the Tousem people.
The statement further conveyed that the people of Tamenglong and the tribal as a whole, will not compromise even an inch of land to anyone under any circumstances.
The people of Tamenglong along with different organisations are set to fight tooth and nail until the original boundary is restored.
