Imphal, June 13 2015 :
United Naga Council (UNC) has called 48-hour "vehicular traffic" bandh in the National Highways in Naga areas from June 16 midnight till the midnight of June 18 .
However, educational institutions, medical, water supply, electricity departments and the media are exempted from the purview of the bandh.
The UNC in a press release issued by its Information and Publicity Secretary S Milan also warned that anyone violating the "democratic bandh" would be doing so at his or her own risk.
Respective tribe presidents, Naga frontal organizations, regional apex organizations have been informed to enforce the bandh effectively in their respective jurisdictions.
The press release also reminded that during the 3rd Naga Peoples' Convention (NPC) held on July 1, 2010, the Nagas had declared severance of "political ties" with the Government of Manipur and demanded an alternative arrangement.
UNC said in the last 7th Round of Tripartite Talks held on February 6 in Tahamzam (Senapati), it was agreed to constitute a High Level Committee to translate the UNC demands into "political reality." As expression of its resentment for "non-fulfilment" with tangible solution, the UNC has called the bandh, said the press release.
