Fish fair : Pengba, Ngaton, Khabak at Rs 650 per kg

As in the past years, Directorate of Fisheries organised a fish fair cum fish crop competition with a production target of 80,000 kgs at ISBT complex, Khuman Lampak today.
Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Abdul Nasir and Commissioner (Fisheries) Robert Dishinang graced the opening function of the fair as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The price of Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Common Carp, Grass Carp and Silver Carp per kg was fixed at Rs 230, Rs 200, Rs 200, Rs 170, Rs 200 and Rs 150 respectively while indigenous fish varieties like Ngaton, Pengba and Khabak were sold at Rs 650 per kg at the fair.
In his speech, Govindas Konthoujam said that the State could produce only 30,5000 MT of fish annually against the total annual requirement of 40,000 MT.
As such, around 9500 MT of fish is imported from Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Bengal etc every year, he said.
On the other hand, the Minister lauded the Directorate of Fisheries for organizing an annual fish fair cum competition on the eve of Ningol Chakkouba festival every year to encourage the fish farmers.
Md Abdul Nasir while speaking at the function said that the State Government is planning to set up a comprehensive fish market in the State to provide a proper market to fish farmers.
In his speech, Robert Dishinang said that there would be no deficit in fish production in Manipur if the fish farmers put in dedicated efforts.
