Free eye screening camp

As part of the World Sight Day 2017 observation, Shija Eye Care Foundation (SECF) organised a free comprehensive eye screening camp at Shija Hospital today wherein more than 100 patients were treated .
Informing this in a press conference held at its auditorium, Consultant Ophthalmologist, SECF, Dr Khuraijam Noornika announced that SECF will perform free cataract surgery for patients detected with cataract problems while other eye related surgeries will be conducted at subsidised rate with 20 percent concession on diagnostic tests .
She said that the cataract surgery will be performed under the sponsorship of National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) under National Health Mission (NHM) .
She also informed that "Sponsors Day" was also observed at the hospital during which appreciation certificates were distributed to the sponsors of free eye camps .
She said that the theme "Make Vision Count" of World Sight Day, 2017 focuses on global attention on blindness and vision impairment.
Around 36 billion people in the world suffered from blindness.
Out of them, 50 percent are needless blindness which is curable and preventable blindness, she said.
Maintaining that 70 percent of the patients suffering from needless blindness are aged people, she said that various vision impairments are ignored due to several reasons including giving less importance to vision and fear of operation .
The press conference was also attended by Thokchom Dennis, co-coordinator, SECF and Dr Chongtham Sharda, consultant, SECF.
