Ukhrul ADC member shot dead, two others hurt in ambush

Ukhrul, July 12 2014 :
Member of Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (UADC) Ngalangzar Malue was shot dead and two others were injured in a brutal armed attack suspected to be the handiwork of NSCN (IM) at Finch Corner, about 20-km from Ukhrul headquarters on Saturday.
Ngalangzar Malue, a sitting Naga councilor elected from Phungyar constituency in 2010 and also a former UADC vice chairman, was attacked and shot dead on the spot by armed assailants suspected to be NSCN (IM).
The incident occurred at around 11.50 AM at a spot about 100-meter before reaching Finch Corner and 20-km from Ukhrul headquarters.
A police source said that the armed assailants were laying in wait for the victims by a roadside, which is about 5-km from Shangshak Police station and 3-km from Assam Rifles Shokvao post at Ramva.
Ngalangzar and his nephew Ratanmi Malue (25), who hails from Khambi village, according to family sources, were visiting his dying mother at his native village and left Imphal this morning.

His nephew had a providential escape from the attack, but his back was scratched by a spraying bullet and was rushed to Assam Rifles Shokvao post to get 30 stitches on his wound.
They were travelling in a hired Maruti Van (MN01 K 3962) from Imphal and were on way to his native Nongman village under Phungyar police station.
The driver of the Maruti Van identified as Khangembam Bigyanic (42) of Khurai Thangjam Leikai in Imphal East district was also reportedly hit by a bullet in the ambush.
A reliable report stated the assailants who were coming in a Maruti gypsy followed the vehicle in which the ADC member was travelling from Imphal and taken over it at some point on the way.
Ratanmi was said to have informed that about four armed assailants stopped their vehicle and fired upon them indiscriminately.
Police conducting the spot inquiry also observed that the armed attacked was coordinated from upper roadside indicating that there are few bullet holes on the upper ridge of the vehicle's front windshield.
Ngalangzar was 65.He was survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters.
Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Modak Hrisheekesh Arvind and Superintendent of Police S.Selvan rushed to the spot and assessed the situation.
A team of police led by Additional Director General of Police from Imphal rushed to the site to take stock of the situation and brought the mortal remains to Imphal in the afternoon.
Later in the evening, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam visited the bereaved family and expressed their condolences.
Condemning the killing, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said that the state government will not remain mute on such terror act.
He said killing leaders who have been serving the people could be done by thoughtless people.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam also condemned the killing of the ADC member.
