Thoubal, May 12 2020: Saikhom Mantri, ex-Pradhan of Heirok Part-I Gram Panchayat has been sent to jail in connection with fraudulent withdrawal of wages belonging to MGNREGS job card holders.

Saikhom Mantri Meitei (57) s/o late Lomon Meitei of Heirok Part-I, Heituppokpi Mamang Leikai was arrested by police on May 6.After completion of five days police custody remand, Mantri was produced before the Court of CJM Thoubal yesterday and the Court remanded him to judicial custody for 15 days.

Laishram Khamba, incumbent Pradhan of the same Gram Panchayat filed a complaint at Heirok police station on May 6 seeking arrest of S Mantri Meitei.

According to the complaint filed by Khamba, Mantri, in cahoots with his son fraudulently withdrew wages of many job card holders of Heirok Part-I Gram Panchayat from HDFC Bank, Thoubal branch.

Police have charged Mantri with criminal conspiracy, forgery and deceit.
