Villagers allege threat

Several armed personnel of an underground outfit allegedly fired several rounds of bullets and threatened villagers of K Hengjang in Kangpokpi district to leave their village recently.
At Manipur Press Club Imphal, K Hengjang village chief Ngamkholal Kipgen told reporters that on February 6 midnight, 7-8 armed personnel of "an underground outfit" fired several rounds of bullets and damaged vehicles and other properties of the villagers.
The armed personnel then threatened the villagers and told them to evacuate and leave the village by February 10, he said, appealing to the Government to deploy and station State forces in the village for protection.
The village has written complaints to the DGP (Director General of Police) and Imphal East Superintendent of Police regarding the threat.
However, apart from a visit from the Maphou Police, no security has been provided till today, he said.
He appealed the Government and the law enforcement agencies to take up necessary actions to provide security and protect the lives and properties of the village.
