National Deworming Day launched

The first round of the National Deworming Day 2018 for Imphal East with the motto "Worm free children are healthy children" was lauched today at Meitei Mayek High School, Kongba Bazar.
The programme organised by the District Health Society (DHS), Imphal East was attended by DC/ Chairman of DHS Imphal East Th Chitra Devi, CMC/District Mission Director of DHS, Imphal East Dr Kh Indra Singh, District Programme Officer, Social Welfare, Imphal East Kh Barpananda Singh and ZEO, Zone II, Imphal East M Premchandra Singh as presidium members.
Chief guest of the event Th Chitra distributed and administered deworming tablets (Albendazole) to the students of the school.
Speaking at the occasion, Th Chitra said that the deworming programme which was launched on February 10 in the State by the Health Minister aims to cover all children in the State.
Stating the importance of the programme, she urged the teachers and all the stakeholders to work with dedications to cover every child in the district before February 20.Kh Indra who attended the event as president stated that the deworming programme in Imphal East aims to cover a total of 1,45,613 children.
The programme will cover 3 Central Government Institutes, 216 State Government Schools, 59 Govt Aided Schools, 131 private schools and 2048 Anganwadi Centres in the district.
Besides the children in these institutions, the programme will also cover 3,936 school drop-out children aged between 1 to 19 years.
Worms can cause anaemia and nutritional diseases, thereby impairing mental and physical development of children.
To combat the situation of worm infection in India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched the National Deworming Day in February 2015 as part of the National Health Mission.
The aim of this programme is to deworm all the children from 1 to 19 years and improve their well-being.
Children between 1 to 2 years are administered half of one Albendazole tablet.
Children between 2 to 19 years are given one full tablet.
The second round of the programme will be launched on August 10 .
