Imphal, April 11 2015 :
Labourers engaged in the construction work of a Bailey bridge at Lousangkhong today demanded legal action against the OC of Lamlai PS and his subordinate SI Nabakanta for the alleged wrongful detention of the labourers on April 9 .
The DGP was urged to take action against the police officers yesterday by the labourers, stated Khaidem Indrakumar while talking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today.
Indrakumar said the labourers were repeatedly threatened by one Ngangom Shanta of Loushangkhong Awang Lei-kai.
Instead of entertaining the complaint lodged by the labourers, the police allegedly took the complaint of Shanta rather, he said.
The police were fed with misleading information when the police intervened following a spat between Shanta and the labourers.
A police team led by SI Nabakanta wrongly detained the labourers on April 9 .
They were only released after a protest was launched by the local women folks, Indrakumar said.
As such, the labourers demanded fitting legal action against the police officers.
Meanwhile, sub-contractor of the said Bailey bridge, Mongjam Poreihenba stated that the accusation made by Ngagom Shanta against him are all baseless and he had never taken any money from him for the construction works.
