Imphal, November 10 2012:
A one-day panel discussion on "Countdown of India's Political Time Bomb to destroy Manipur" was organized by Freedom Research Foundation at Manipur Press Club here today.
Speaking on the occasion as one of the Panelists, Social Activist Dr Dhanabir Laishram exclaimed that asking Meeteis to live in an area of land fit to be dwelt by a family would be regarded as a joke by the Meeteis who have been settling in Manipur as an independent kingdom since early times.
He further stated that Manipur is the land which has fought against the mighty British to get back their independence with all means.
Realizing that Meeteis would never compromise an inch of their land on any ground, India Government has been encouraging the Nagas and the Kukis to demand separate homelands to disintegrate Manipur into pieces.
Cautioning the Kukis and the Nagas over the intention of the Indian Government, Dr Dhanabir Laishram said that there is no place for the Kukis to demand a land of their own in Manipur, nor have a separate land for the Nagas.
The Kukis have been allowed to settle in Manipur by Chandrakirti, the then King of Manipur, considering the fact that the population of Manipur was very less then.
The discussion session was also attended by Prof N Joykumar of MU; Dr RK Ranjan, Chairman of HRI; Dr Chinglen Maisnam of MU; A Mobi, President of AMWJU; Y Rupachandra, Correspondent of Seven Sisters Post and Dr N Pramod, LMS Law College as other Panelists.
