NEC pressed for ST students' hostel

The Government of Manipur has pressed the North Eastern Council (NEC) for sanctioning the project for construction of hostels for Schedule Tribe (ST) students in the state at the earliest possible.
According to an official source, the Chief Secretary of Manipur has sent a written statement to UK Sangma, Secretary of NEC urging him to sanction the proposed project for construction of hostels for ST students of the state.
The proposed hostels in the hill districts of the state are to be constructed under the Human Resource Development Programmee of NEC.
These hostels are to be constructed in the five hill districts of the state namely Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong, Churachandpur and Chandel.
The proposal has already been submitted to NEC, the source disclosed.
The source further revealed that the project for construction of hostels has been placed in the priority list of all projects submitted to the NEC.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the project has also been sent to NEC.
The State Planning Dept would be the nodal agency for construction of these hostels.
Ten percent of the total cost would be borne by the Planning dept.
The construction process is to be taken up along with formation of a Construction and Management Committee with the DC of the district concerned as Chairman.
