Thoubal, January 09 2025:
Mangal Leima Self Help Group from Khangabok, Thoubal is currently participating in the National Bharat Mahotsav organised by NABARD and Department of Financial Services (Ministry of Finance) which kicked off on January 4, 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The event will conclude on January 9, 2025 .
The Mahotsav aims to enhance rural infrastructure, create self-reliant economies, and foster innovation within rural communities through various discussions, workshops and masterclasses.
Notably, Mangal Leima Self Help Group (SHG) was founded in 2014 by Laishram Sharmila Devi.
This initiative started modestly with a handful of women and has since grown to empower over 4000 women artisans today.
With financial and skill support from NABARD, Mangal Leima SHG has become a beacon of self-reliance and creativity, producing a diverse range of handcrafted products, including bags, gift baskets, boxes, cases, and home decor items, all made from Kouna, a locally sourced swamp reed native to Thoubal district.
It may be noted that a significant focus of the Mahatsov is to empower rural women through entrepreneurship; bring together Government officials through leaders, rural entrepreneurs, artisans and stakeholders from diverse sectors to build a roadmap for collaborative and collective rural transformation, encourage discussions around leveraging technology and innovative practices to enhance rural livelihoods, and showcase India's rich cultural heritage through vibrant performances and exhibitions.
