Poumais live up to their rich cultural heritage

Preserving physical structures and passing on to generations through verbal records, the Poumai tribe's Hiiduna (Purul Atongba-Rosofii) Cultural cum Literary Meet 2012 was inaugurated at Poumai Center Ground, Purul in Senapati district of Manipur on Saturday.

Brigade as chief guest, 5AR CO Col.Vikram Dubey as guest of honor and former minister DD Thaisii with ex-MLA Henry Paotei as the hosts, the 3-day meet will display the riches of its cultural practices and materials preseved since its ancestral days.
With the participation of both men and women folks representing Purul Atongba and Rosofii villages, different traditional games and historical practices have been been demonstrated with original equipments.
Speaking at the occasion, Brig.
Sharma, lauded the efforts of the 'Hiidunas' to preserve and explore its rich cultures through such significant programmes.

While extending all available resources and assistances to the general public of the district, the army officer appealed for a harmonious and peaceful society.
Col.Vikram Dubey also emphasized on the need for peaceful co-existence among the people of the district and State, through which the much anticipated Indo-Naga peace process in its final rounds is expected to bring communal harmony.
Earlier, the 5AR had also provided transportations and lunch to a group of youths and women folks who were given a rare opportunity to witness the last day of the "Hornbill Festival", 2012 at Kisama, Nagaland.
In the midst of its panoramic scenery and cold winter sky, women folks displayed the weaving and making of threads through the traditional plants, brewing of local rice beer, pounding of rice and others.
Men folks played the Tou-Tou, a flat round stone slap used for hitting a given target, youth animal game and other male games.
A mind blowing realistic traditional houses with ancestral utensils, kitchen, equipments and bull fight was also demonstrated to the audience.
