International Literacy Day-2022 observed

Rotary Club of Imphal (RID-3240) observed 'International Literacy Day-2022' on the theme 'Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces' at Rotary Bhavan, Mantripukhri today.
During the programme, 15 Government school teachers under Zone I, II and IV of Department of Education (S) were honoured with Nation Builder Awards under TEACH programme of Rotary India Literacy Mission, said a press release by the president of Rotary Club of Imphal.
Nation Builder Award winners are (i) Nongmaithem Gautam Singh of Eastern Ideal High School, Akampat (ii) Khundrakpam Binodkumar Singh of Sajirok Primary School, Konthoujam (iii) Khuraijam Bishswajit Singh of Moibung Khunou Primary School (iv) Sanasam Imocha Singh of Laikon Upper Primary School (v) Yumnam Somorendro Singh of Samushang Shantipur Upper Primary School (vi) Jackson Naorem of Eastern Ideal High School, Akampat (vii) Khangembam Thoinuhenbi Chanu of Y.Tampha High School, Khabam (viii) Mayanglambam Hemjit Singh of Lamphel High School, Khurai (ix) Kangjam Vimi Devi of Kumari High School, Hiyangthang (x) Koijam Machasana of Ghari Upper Primary School, Ghari (xi) Shougrakpam Ashakiran Devi of Yumnam Khunou Junior High School, Imphal East (xii) Laishram Kiran Singh of Kiyamgei Ideal High School, Kiyamgei (xiii) Konthoujam Raghumani Singh of Kiyamgei Ideal High School, Kiyamgei (xiv) Mumtaz Begum of Urup Awang Leikai Primary School, Urup and (xv) Chingkheiton Huidrom of Chingangbam Leikai Upper PrimarySchool.

It is worth mentioning that Nongmaithem Gautam Singh of Eastern Ideal High School, Akampat was awarded with the National Award for Teachers -2022 .
Harekrishna Mang satabam, IAS, Commissioner, IPR, Govt of Manipur, Rtn Ellendra Thoudam, Assistant Governor, Zone XII, RID 3240, Rtn W Rabichandra, CLCC and Rtn Pramod Jaiswal, President Rotary Club of Imphal graced the occasion as presidium members.
Speaking as the chief guest, Harekrishna Mangsatabam stated that International Literacy Day is celebrated worldwide to give an opportunity to rethink the fundamental importance of literacy learning spaces to build resilience and ensure quality, equitable, and inclusive education for all.
He congratulated all NBA award winning teachers and said that education is the most powerful weapon for changing the world.
Rtn Pramod Jaiswal while speaking at the occasion had maintained that UNESCO designated September 8 as International Literacy Day in the year 1966 .
It is to bring to light the concerns for the global and domestic literacy issues that exist.
It is also to raise awareness about the value of education as a matter of human rights and dignity, he added.
He requested all teachers to continue to dedicate themselves to building a strong nation.
The Department of Adult Continuing Education and Extension, Manipur University also observed 'International Literacy Day-2022' at the lecture hall of the Department today.
The dignitaries spoke at length on the theme of the observation 'Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces' .
Head in-charge of the Department, Dr Ch Sonia Devi while speaking at the occasion maintained that education is the backbone of the society and stressed on the need of providing education to each and every individual for a progressive society.
She also emphasized on the need of providing skill development training especially among the youths to enhance their creativity.
Later certificates were distributed to the students of the six months certificate course in life skill training which is opened as a vocational course in the Department. Certificates and simple gifts were also presented to the adult learners who participated in the 45 day adult literacy programme held at Mongshangei.
During the programme, Assistant Professor of the Department Dr RK Suresh Singh was felicitated for receiving Dr S Radhakrishnan, Bharat Shiksha Award for Outstanding Contribution in Extension Outreach Program University.
