1 AR jawan killed, 3 hurt in PLA ambush

At least, one jawan of the 44 Assam Rifles C-Coy was killed while three others sustained injuries in an ambush laid by cadres of People's Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front at a spot in between Grihang and Ningthou Khul under Chassad police station of Kamsong sub-division in Ukhrul district today morning.
The incident occurred at around 6 pm while an ROP team of the 44 Assam Rifles C-Coy was performing their duty.
According to police report, the AR team was carrying out the ROP duty in the area when PLA cadres laid the ambush along with exploding IEDs and fired lethod bombs.
In all four jawans sustained injuries in the ambush and they were evacuated to Leimakhong Military Hospital here with the help of Army helicopter.
However, one of the injured AR jawans identified as KK Mehta (35) succumbed at around noon.
On receiving the report of the ambush, reinforcement of Assam Rifles rushed in to the area and conducted a massive cordon and search operation.
However, there is no report of any arrest made in connection with the ambush.
Meanwhile, claiming responsibility for the ambush, Chief of Department of Publicity of RPF Bangkim said that the ambush was carried out by a team of the Tactical Command as part of the efforts being made to liberate Manipur.
The attack was carried out to drive away Indian security forces from the soil of Manipur.
